Will add to this review in time, but for now... Amazing world building, and very well built characters, even the evil plotting prince and all his nasty intriguing. I loved the idea behind a bastard of royalty becoming an assassin to the KIng. However, some parts of the story felt a bit slow, or unexplained, or both. The very chilling Forging business, for example, seemed to be left hanging a little, same as all the Red-ship raiders. Possibly because this is a trilogy and I need to read the next

There are a couple of things that made this book quite enjoyable for me:- The Royals names. It was a small thing, but one that made this book extra interesting, as I kept wondering which royal would be introduced next, and what quirk his or her name would allude to.- The main character's age. It's quite rare to see a book that starts off with a character at six years old..yes six years old. I found it quite enjoyable reading Fitz journey through the years. I also found him to be quite relatable,

I really loved the first in this trilogy but found the second harder to get through. The first 3rd in particular was a bit dull. I didn't enjoy the explanation and development of the wit surrounding Fitz and his wolf. Once that piece wrapped up, I was able to get back into it.

I really liked this book, but found it so much harder to get into than other Robin Hobb books that I've read. After three failed attempts, I finally persevered and read it all. It was a good read, and left me wanting more. It may be good marketing practice to follow the end of a book with the next few chapters of the next but it winds me up no end. It led me to believe that there were another few chapters of story to go, so it seemed to end too suddenly, with a hasty round up of loose ends. I
