Infinity in the palm of her hand. Regardless of the fact that she based an unauthentical story of her own on one of the most frequently discussed stories of all time i.e how human race sprouted on earth, the way she relayed the made up things with the real things makes you stop and admire this book.The ending is well, unexpected. I sense that she tried satisfying both parties, the religious and the Darwin's people. This book is honestly one of its kind and I don't have to agree with the author's

Gioconda Belli excelled in shaping the nature of the first woman in creating a strong woman role model. However, there were obvious flaws. For example, how Eve embraced motherhood when she gave birth to twins. If we, as readers, are to believe that sexual intercourse is instinctive then one would take this one step further to maintain that woman instinctively want to nurture and cleave their children to their breasts upon birth. This book is based on the Adam and Eve story. It's an interesting premise. I wish I could read it in Spanish. I think a lot of the poetry of the language is lost in translation.

novel about eve and adam and their damn kids after getting the boot from garden. much too much overwrought and breathless for me, but novel has won all kinds of awards and is fairly interesting idea. perhaps for the bible crowd and those of a poetical and dreamy inclination this could be a novel to remember for a lifetime. one thing i didn;t know was that cain and abel had twin siblings, luluwa and aklia. hmmmm....

It took me almost two days after finishing this book to put into words what I thought about it. A retelling of Adam and Eve, it stumbles at times and is tinged with modern sensibilities. It's easy to read but not an easy read, if that makes sense. What made me, in the end, like this book is that It builds on itself, running up to an unexpected ending that recasts the story of Adam and Eve. Recommended for hardcore literary-philes and those who do not view the Bible as an unimpeachable authority.

A friend lent me this book. She told me it was the story of creationism and Adam and Eve, but combined with evolution. Evolution?, I said. Yes, I don't know how, but it does, she said. And she was right... except that that happens at the end of the book. According to what she said, the book was written by a woman who is in fact a poet and not a novelist. You can tell because the language she uses is prettier and you can tell she takes a lot of care on what words she uses than some novelists do.
