Princess Mia (The Princess Diaries #9)
Mia has been invited to speak at a gala for Domina Rei, an elite society of powerful businesswomen. But what could she possibly have to say? Now that Michael has broken things off, Mia can barely get out of bed, and her parents are making her see a "therapist." School, where Lilly still refuses to speak to her and Lana suddenly wants to be bff, is a total nightmare. Even J.P.'s efforts to cheer Mia up (he's being really sweet!) aren't helping. What's a royal to do?
Just when things couldn't get worse, Mia uncovers an old family secret, a long-forgotten diary of a teenage princess of Genovia. It could be just the thing to help Mia write her speech--but it might also change the fate of the Renaldos forever.
This is the first book in this series that I felt I could make a full-sized review on and that's because I think this one was my favorite so far. Characters: Mia: I finally fully loved Mia's character in a book. I think she changed and grew a lot from the last book and she's finally realizing things that need to be realized. I almost think she's more relatable now that she's gone through her transformation. Her breakdown was believable and consistent with her character through the series.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!

More princess stuff! YES. I really enjoyed this one and got choked up a few times as well. Very interested to see where the story is headed. On to book ten!
SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER!Okay, I like the series. I wasn't real pleased with the one before this, but I was okay with it. The series is good. But this book was terrible. Mia acted like she was no one without Michael. And she's the one who dumped him, and when given the chance to tell him she din't want to be just friends, she didn't, and then spends the rest of the book whining about it! And I didn't like Lilly not being her friend. And she's so embarrassed about going to a therapist.
When I started to read this book I was worried that it was going to be another story full of whining and moaning from Mia, much like books 4 - 7, but thankfully it wasn't. There were some things which I liked about this book: the absence of Michael, who I always thought was unsuited for Mia; the absence of Lilly, who Mia should learn to stand up to; the story about the diary of Mia's ancestor, which was quite interesting; the subplot about Kenny - hilarious!; Mia realising that pining over
So glad this little lull is over and these books are back to being awesome! Just ONE book stands between me and A Royal Wedding!! I'm hoping to finish both this week!

Shout out to Mia for FINALLY making positive decisions that don't just center around herself. Can't wait to for her to finally pull her head out of her ass.
