Yusuke Urameshi was a tough teen delinquent until one selfless act changed his life... by ending it. When he died saving a little kid from a speeding car, the afterlife didn't know what to do with him, so it gave him a second chance at life. Now, Yusuke is a ghost with a mission, performing good deeds at the behest of Botan, the spirit guide of the dead, and Koenma, her pacifier-sucking boss from the "other side." FINALLY! I've been dying to read this series since I fell in love with the anime five years ago. I've heard about the "extra" material from the manga that isn't in the anime, mainly in the first two volumes, where Yusuke does various acts of good towards fellow man (and ghosts) while he's still in limbo. Some of these little stories were actually quite heartwarming and I'm pleased I finally got around to experiencing them. Can't wait to finish the series and finally mark off another "anime ANDI like some of the one-shot stories that didn't make it to the anime, but I can understand why they were left on the cutting room floor, so to speak. Also, it's fun to see how some of the early plot points got Frankensteined together in the adaptation process.
Not as connect to the show, but in these episodic adventures while dead Yusuke shows that under all that tough punk exterior he works to hard to cultivate, he's a decent guy.
Yusuke is a delinquent who spends more time getting into pointless fights than coming to school. But he doesn't have a bad heart, and when he dies before his allotted time, jumping to save a little boy from being hit by a car, the powers of the afterlife (who so far have been carefully avoiding answering any questions about theology, including what religion they come from) tell him he can maybe have a second chance at life if he helps out some souls. The book takes the form of short stories, with
For this book, I thought I would throw a little manga in the mix. I knew of this book series because I watched the Anime when I was a kid and loved it. This book itself was really good and added a lot of details that the show skipped altogether. The book follows Yusuke Urameshi a high schooler with an attitude problem, but a heart of gold. But based on a weird turn of events, he dies within the first couple of panels. Yusuke is met with the grim reaper, who offers him a chance to come back to
i enjoyed the anime, so when i finally ventured over to the "young adult" section in my library and saw the series, had to pick it up. can't remember just how close it is to the anime, but i do know it's fairly close. i enjoyed it just as much as i did watching it on the tv. i wonder if the battles will be just as drawn out later in the series though.
